Hebrews 11:1-6

(Hebrews 11:1-6)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  For by it the elders obtained a good report.  Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.  By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.  By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The Bible says that "faith is the substance of things hoped for." To understand the word "the substance of things hoped for" more specifically, in Matthew 8:5-10, in Capernaum, the centurion begged Jesus to heal a servant suffering from paralysis. Jesus said, "I will go and heal." Then the Centurion said, ``The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. Jesus praised this faith.

Faith must be faith that comes from God, not faith that I believe. The faith that discovers Christ is the faith that comes from God. The Centurion knew this principle of faith. So, he believed that a word of Jesus Christ, the faith itself, transcends time and space. The Bible says, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Examples of the evidence include Cain and Abel's sacrifice. God did not receive Cain's sacrifice, but Abel. And God said Abel was righteous.

According to Genesis, we can see from the text why God was pleased with Abel's sacrifice and rejected Cain's sacrifice, and it can be seen that Abel gave God the pleasure and Cain did not. Abel offered a sacrifice, and Cain gave a portion of the harvest. The sacrifice is a desire for the kingdom of God, and the provision of grain on the ground means having a hope for the earth. God received Abel's sacrifice and Cain's.

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Enoch's faith is the same as that of the New Testament rapture. Those who have faith in the rapture are born again. Those who are born again are born again with water and the Holy Spirit. This is also done by faith. In the water, the body of the body dies, and by the Holy Spirit, the body of the spirit is born again. This is to be a participant in the first resurrection, the resurrection of Jesus.
