Hebrews 3:1-19
(Hebrews 3:1-19)
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly
calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Who was faithful to him that appointed him,
as also Moses was faithful in all his house. For this man was counted worthy
of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more
honour than the house. For every
house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. And Moses
verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those
things which were to be spoken after; But
Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the
confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. Wherefore
(as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden
not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the
wilderness: When your fathers tempted me,
proved me, and saw my works forty years. Wherefore I was grieved with
that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not
known my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They
shall not enter into my rest.) Take heed, brethren, lest there
be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day;
lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we
are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence
stedfast unto the end; While it is said, To day if ye
will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. For
some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt
by Moses. But
with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned,
whose carcases fell in the wilderness? And to whom sware he that they
should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we
see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
Moses did well in his
role as God's faithful worker. 『And Moses verily was faithful
in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to
be spoken after』
Surely Moses was the faithful servant of the Lord. Moses was special to the Jews.
This is because the law that the Jews regard as the best and Moses are
inextricably linked. However, Moses cannot be the object of service. It was God
who called Moses, and it was God who gave the law. Moses was just the passage
of the Lord. The fulfillment of the law is in Jesus Christ, and the law is
directed to Jesus Christ. What Moses faithfully did before God is also directed
toward Jesus Christ. In other words, Moses was an introducer who preached the
coming Jesus and the gospel according to God's revelation. That was Moses'
role.
『
Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all
his house. For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch
as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house..』 Moses was part of the house, but Jesus was the
creator of the house. In other words, Moses was a member of the house of God,
that is, the people of God, but Jesus was the creator of the people. The Jews
did not know Jesus. In other words, we did not find Jesus Christ, who is
ultimately speaking in the law. Therefore, they guilty of putting one person
named Moses as priority over all objects, not Jesus, who was Moses' ultimate
object.
This is one of the
things that are still easy for us to do today. We sometimes unknowingly target
someone, something, something that we think makes us happy, inspires, and
influences us. Although the ultimate consequences of joy, emotion, and good
influence are the grace of God and the love of God to love and care for humans,
we do not see the consequences of it, and sometimes we commit the mistake of
aiming for it itself. So, humans make people idols and things idols. Nothing
can and should not take precedence over Jesus Christ, our ultimate purpose.
The Bible says Jesus
is the high priest. This means that Jesus is the representative of man. Jesus
represents humans to God, and represents God to humans. Jesus is the only one
who holds us in any situation we encounter with a strong force that transcends
that situation and leads us to the ultimate good, not failure. The more we
meditate on the situation, the more we become engulfed by the despair it gives,
but the deeper we meditate on Jesus, the deeper we will experience the kind of
person He is to me and the strength He holds in my life. will be.
『 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the
wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.』 The
first generations of Exodus saw and experienced God's actions for forty years,
but rather hardened their hearts to test God and did not know God's way. And
this led to God's wrath. The Bible emphasizes this story once more and
concludes:
『
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in
departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called
To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we
are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence
stedfast unto the end』
The saving faith in
the Bible is mainly explained in the shadow of the New Testament, the Exodus of
the Old Testament. Those who believe in the Lord in the wilderness and enter Canaan
are saved faith. This faith is the faith of the elect. The spiritual condition
of the Hebrew people is our spiritual shadow. Living in Egypt was too difficult
for them. They didn't know why they lived that way.
So, in it, the purpose of life began to emerge. As they cried, the Lord sent
Moses to bring them out of Egypt, and the Lord commanded, "Let my people
worship." Worship is to be walked more than three days away from Egypt.
This symbolizes the cross and resurrection three days later.
God had them paint
the blood of the Lamb. They found that all men were under the wrath of God, and
that they had escaped wrath. Then they eat the meat of the lamb, and in the
morning the sea of the Red Sea splits and crosses into the wilderness. From
that day, 600,000 people ate manna every day. On the sixth day, two days are
harvested, after which it dries out. They had to eat every day. In the New
Testament, it means to depend on Christ every day. We must rely on today's
Christ, not yesterday's Christ. Even though there was yesterday's miracle,
yesterday has passed. Even if there was a miracle yesterday, if there is a
storm today, everyone will tremble with fear like the disciples.
It is not that we
hold on to good faith until yesterday, but the faith we hold on from this
moment today is important. So the Hebrew people spent a year in the wilderness.
The pillars of cloud and fire guided them. Every day was a miracle. However,
the Bible does not call this belief. Moses received the law to keep in the
promised land for 40 days, and he taught the people to keep the law and to keep
it in the tabernacle. The tabernacle is a model of heaven. And God is saying,
"Survey the land I promised you." Representatives of the twelve
tribes had been watching for 40 days, and 10 spies came and said, "If we
enter Canaan, we will die." As representatives of the tribe, they were the
people of the best faith until spying.
Today, most churches
will say that the faith of these people is the saved faith. They will say that
if they have experienced miracles or have had a spiritual experience, it is a
saved faith. Those who say they came out of the world by painting the blood of
a lamb will say they are saved. However, the only salvation in the Bible is
Canaan. Many churches today are deluded. If you paint the blood of the lamb in
the church, you declare that you are all saved. There was a voice from Moses to
John the Baptist who cried out in the wilderness, "Repent." That was
the law. Before the law, they realize that they are sinners to die because they
know God's standards. The law was to be kept in the land.
In Numbers 14:1, 『all
the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that
night. 14:3 says, "wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to
fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey?" were
it not better for us to return into Egypt? 』
They did not believe the word of God's promise. The saved faith is the faith
that enters Canaan, a symbol of Christ. Then Joshua and Caleb said in 14:7-9,
``they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land,
which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. If the LORD
delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land
which floweth with milk and honey. Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither
fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is
departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not. 』This
is the faith to be saved.
Joshua in Hebrew is
Jesus in Greek. The Old Testament is in Hebrew, but the New Testament is
written in Greek. Joshua and Caleb are the only ones associated with God's
promise. In 14:10, "But all the congregation bade stone them with stones.
And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before
all the children of Israel. 』Salvation is one of the two,
whether or not you enter Canaan. Canaan is the Christ. There is no middle. At
the time of the Exodus, all came from Egypt. The faith in the exodus is not the
faith to be saved. Entering Canaan is the faith of salvation.
